John Apuruot Akec is the Founder and Managing Director of AKEC Consulting Limited.
He holds a BSc (Hon.) degree in applied physics and electronics from University of Gezira (Sudan), MSc in systems engineering specializing in robotics and automation from University of Cardiff (UK), doctorate in manufacturing and mechanical engineering from University of Birmingham (United Kingdom), and postgraduate certificate in environmental innovation from University of Manchester (UK). He was a vice chancellor at the University of Juba from March 2014 to March 2024, during which period the University of Juba experienced phenomenal transformation and growth, vertically and horizontally. The number of schools doubled from 13 in 2014 to 23 schools by 2024, student population quadrupled from 10,000 in 2014 to 40,000 in 2024. The postgraduate student population expanded from a few hundred to close to 5,000. The number of academic members increased from 296 in 2014 to over 1,200 by 2024. The University witnessed unprecedented improvement in learning infrastructure, including lecture halls and labs, and improved ICT infrastructure, power, and internet connectivity.
